Visit Dubai During Ramadan

During Ramadan, which is a month-long observance observed by Muslims worldwide, visitors to Dubai may notice some changes in the city’s usual activities and customs. Some restrictions and changes for tourists to be aware of during Ramadan include:

  • Restrictions on eating, drinking, and smoking in public places during daylight hours
  • Restaurants and cafes may close during the day and only open after sunset
  • Alcohol sales may be restricted and only available in licensed venues after sunset
  • Shorter operating hours for businesses and offices
  • Increased traffic after sunset as people break their fast and gather with family and friends
  • Increased attendance at mosques for special evening prayers

Ramadan for the year 2023 starts on the evening of Wednesday, March 22nd lasting 30 days and ending at sundown on Thursday, April 20.

Tourists are expected to respect the customs of Ramadan and avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in public during daylight hours. Visitors to Dubai may find that many of the city’s attractions, shops, and other activities are open as usual after sunset. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, charity, and community for Muslims in Dubai and around the world, and visitors can experience this special time by attending cultural events, trying traditional Ramadan foods, and visiting the many Ramadan tents and markets set up throughout the city.
